How to Read Tarot Cards – Characteristics of the Suits of the Tarot Deck

Written by psychiclineadmin on April 14, 2009

In a standard tarot card deck, there are 78 cards. As most people know, Within this grouping they are further divided into 2 more specific sections known as the Major Arcana, and the Minor Arcana. But, what some people don’t know is that the tarot deck can also be split up based on suits. In the tarot deck, the suits are Pentacles, Swords, Wands, and Cups. This suit arangement is just like a standard deck of playing cards. Both have four suits, albeit different ones.

The unique thing about these suits within the tarot deck is that they’re each associated with one of the four elements of astrology, and their respective triplicities.

The Suit of Cups – The Earth element – Taurus, Virgo, and the Capricorn signs
The Suit of Pentacles – The Water element – Cancer, Scorpio, and the Pisces signs
The Suit of Swords – The Air Element – Gemini, Libra, and the Aquarius signs
The Suit of Wands – The Fire element – Aries, Leo, and the Sagittarius signs

Now while all of the specific relationships between these suits, elements, and influences are beyond the scope of this article, we can take a look at the relationship between the suits and certain traits that are typical of each of the elements.

First up is the Fire Element. You may be aware that the Fire element has traits that are typically those of confidence, enthusiam, assertiveness, and determinations. The fire sign typifies action. The Suit of Wands shares those same characteristics with the Fire element.

Next, The Earth element is most often associated with dependability, stability, introversion, cautiousness, and conventionality. The Earth element, and in turn the Suit of Cups share these traits. THerefore, the Suit of Cups is a very structured and stable suit.

The Water Element is often associated with being very intuitive and feeling. They’re often more emontionally guided and tend to be more passive than active. The Suit of Pentacles shares these traits with the Water Element.

And finally, The Air element. The Air element is quite often thought of as the great communicator. They’re socially active and typically very intellectual. They’re thinkers and often have a great sense of objectivity. The Suit of Swords Shares these traits with the Air element.

So as you can see from this all too brief explanation, using the individual suits can help you to become a better tarot card reader, and help to make your readings much more accurate.

Written by psychiclineadmin on February 25, 2009

Most of us have heard of Tarot Cards but may not fully appreciate their history and current usage. In European countries, there are a number of tarot card games for instance. The cards used in the games have many different designs, patterns and colors and are quite distinct from those used in psychic tarot readings. The game cards can vary depending on the particular region in which the players are located. Some of the standards however, are a deck of 78 cards which consist of four suits of fourteen cards, twenty one trump cards and a fool card.

Of course, many of us are more used to thinking of tarot cards for insight into one’s future and there are millions of people who have taken advantage of this use of the cards in helping them make important decisions in their lives. The cards used for these psychic readings are rather different from the game cards. Modern tarot card decks differ in their colors or symbols. However, the most common deck in the English speaking world is the Rider-Waite Tarot. The majority of the modern variations of the tarot deck in fact are based on the Rider-Waite Tarot.

The modern deck used for psychic readings can be divided into 2 parts. There is the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The major Arcana includes the trump cards which are very symbolic and provide the deeper, more profound answers that you may be seeking from a tarot reading. These cards are scene based and are labeled with both a roman numeral and a name. The Minor Arcana on the other hand are 56 cards that can provide answers to more immediate questions you may have about daily activities or events. These cards also consist of a roman numeral and a name for each that your reader will use to address your questions.

If you want to learn more about the cards before obtaining a reading, there are a number of very useful tarot card tutorials that you can find online. In addition, before you choose a tarot card reader, be sure to do your research so that you can find the right psychic reading that will provide the insight you are seeking.

Tarot Psychics and the Power of The Tarot

Written by psychiclineadmin on February 8, 2009

One form of fortune telling was the use of tarot cards. Picturing gypsies using these tarot cards was an easy vision to conjure up but the problem with this was that gypsies didn’t use tarot cards until the 20th century.

Tarot cards of the modern type date back to 15th century Italy and a game called “triumphs,” which is tarots in French. Two sets of cards, one having 22 picture cards and another set of cards having 56 cards with pictures. The major arcana is the 22 card set and the minor arcana is the 56 card set. The major arcana has such pictures as the Fool, the Devil, Temperance, the Hermit, the Sun, the Lovers, the Hanged Man, and Death while the minor arcana has the kings, or lords, queens, or ladies, knights and knaves, or pages or servants, of sticks or wands, cudgels or batons, swords, cups and coins.

The best psychics use to be the ones seekers would go to have their “cards” read but now people can purchase a deck of tarot cards for less than $10 and learn to read their own tarot cards. But, to just pick up a deck of tarot cards and read them is not really easy if you don’t know what each card means. The tarot is a strong tool to combine your inner and outer self making it possible to live a more fulfilling life and gain insight into your personal growth and goals.

Understanding one’s self and tapping into your inner resources does not require psychic abilities in order to utilize the tarot cards. Developing your natural self and your willingness to honor your natural self are the most important things to using the tarot cards successfully. Learning tarot cards is a self paced lesson and there are several lessons on the internet and also in books.

The main thing needed for learning is a deck of tarot cards. The Rider-Waite deck of tarot cards is widely popular as it has pictures on every card and helps in learning. Thus the quest begins for the one who is interested in learning how to read the tarot cards, which is regarded as a tool for answers to the doubts we have. At a tarot reading there is the querent and the psychic reader, although sometimes one person is both the seeker and psychic reader. The seeker shuffles the cards and cuts the deck and then the psychic reader places the chosen cards in a pattern known as the spread. Each position in a spread has a definition and so does each card. Next, the psychic reader puts both of these together and helps to find an solution to the seekers question.

Long ago it was said that the tarot cards had to be stored in a silk cloth and no one could touch them except the psychic. And if the silk cloth wasn’t put around them when the session was done, the cards would lose their power to predict the future. Some carry on with this tradition.
